Zoom & Discord Rules and How-to!

Welcome delegates!

Coinciding with COVID -19 restrictions, the first half of LOCALs 2020 will be taking place online. We will be using Zoom and Discord as our primary platforms for the online pre-conference. If you are new to either platform, then please read some instructions & How-to's, as well as rules when using these platforms.

ZOOM

1. Setting up your account

When joining Zoom, please use the email you’ve provided to the Locals Secretariat; this will allow your committee chairs to add you as a contact.

Before joining a meeting, please change your name to the following format: Delegation, Committee- Name.

To change your name please go to zoom>user icon>my profile.

2. Getting into meetings

You should have been provided a list of zoom links which will be used during committee sessions- please note that zoom should only be used for calling, and that all communication between delegates and chairs should be done on Discord to avoid confusion and to minimize disruption.

However, if you do need to use a zoom link or code, please follow the directions below:

Zoom links should be sent to you via Discord or your school email. They are recurring meetings which means that the link back to committee sessions or to assembly meetings will be the same throughout the entire conference.

Clicking on the zoom link should bring you to a new tab with a popup that will ask to direct you to the zoom app. Please click “Open zoom.us”.

If you choose to input the Zoom username and passcode instead, then please open your zoom app to the homepage and click join meeting.

Copy and Paste the Zoom code and password.

If neither the link nor the code work for you then please message your chair or the Locals Secretariat via Discord or email (bsmmun@britishschoolmanila.org).

3. If you get disconnected

If you get disconnected from the call, please message your committee or your chair to be added back in.

In the event that your WiFi or Zoom crashes, please ask a fellow schoolmate or delegate to inform our leadership team or your chairs. If you are unable to contact anyone then please just explain to your chairs your situation once everything is sorted.

DISCORD

Discord will be used primarily for online lobbying and delegate discussions when drafting resolutions. Important announcements may be posted in Discord as well. The Discord server link should have been sent to your email as well. Please join the server and follow the instructions below to set up your account.

1. Setting up your account

For the pre and main Locals conference, please follow the following name format:

First Name and Last Name - Delegation

To change your name, click on user settings located on the bottom left of your screen.

Your email can be your personal email.

2. Joining a committee

Discord rooms have been separated by committees. There, you will be able to communicate with delegates in your committees and your chairs to draft resolutions, make speeches and POIs, and ask questions.

To join a committee please, go to Registration and type !rank and your committe: e.g. !rank hrc

3. Important announcements

Alongside committee groups, the LOCALs MUN server also has group chats for important announcements, rules, questions and introductions. Please visit those pages if you have any inquiries regarding parliamentary procedure, LOCALs schedule, and rules.

Rules for ZOOM and Discord

• When not speaking, please mute yourself to avoid disrupting speakers with background noises or chatter.

• Please turn on your videos, this will allow your chairs to know that you are present and actively engaged.

• Wear the proper attire- Please abide by the semi-formal and work attire dress code.

• Offensive language will not be tolerated!- derogatory and demeaning remarks including those regarding race, gender, sexuality, and disabilities, will warrant necessary actions under the chair's discretion.

• Make sure to position yourself in front of the camera so that your video is projected shoulders up with your entire head in the frame.
